Wassail is a hot drink usually made with apples, cinnamon, nutmeg and cider and traditionally drunk at Yule. The name comes from an old Anglo-Saxon term meaning "to your health". This honey-coloured candle is scented with "Mulled Cider", and coated with wax containing ground spices used in the making of wassail. The base is garnished with twine decorated with clusters of cloves. I prefer to think of wassailing as a late autumn activity as according to an earlier tradition, the roots of trees were drenched in cider at the end of the apple harvest, to ensure a prosperous growth in the coming year. Burns up to 80 hours.
Please note that the pattern created by the spices is random and that no two of these candles are alike. The texture of the coating and the shading may differ from this photo.
