The owl is a guide to and through the Underworld, a creature of keen sight in darkness and a silent and swift hunter. It was an important symbol in Celtic and other cultures. The most famous Celtic myth is that of Blodeuwedd, the maiden goddess of flowers, wisdom, lunar mysteries and initiations, who was created by Math and Gwydion as a wife for the latter’s newphew, Llew. While Llew was away, she fell in love with Gronw who was hunting in the woods. Together they plotted Llew’s death but in order to do so, Blodeuwedd had to extract out of Llew the secret of his vulnerability. The plot failed however and Gwyddion turned his wife into an owl as punishment, condemning her to the shadows of night and to be shunned by other birds.
All hand-painted and glazed, and with a burning time of over 20 hours.
